Greening the periodicals chain

Case study: the magazine Duurzaam Geproduceerd, a quest for sustainability

The aim of this project is to raise awareness in and improve the sustainability of the periodicals chain by inspiring the magazine sector and advising it on the potential for improvement. In doing so, the entire production chain was considered, from raw materials production through to consumer disposal. First a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was carried out to calculate the environmental impact of the June 2014 edition of the magazine Duurzaam Geproduceerd. With these LCA results, a quest for improvement was undertaken. This report provides the background to the study and transparency as to the LCA procedure (an essential feature of such studies) and discusses the results.
