Inventory study of the biobased economy in the Dutch chemical industry

Synthesis based on company analyses of fifty VNCI members

At the request of NL Agency and the Association of the Dutch Chemical Industry, VNCI, CE Delft has assessed the degree to which the Dutch chemical industry is engaged  in ‘biobased economy’. The study focused specifically on 50 companies selected by NL Agency and VNCI from the latter’s membership.

The study is based solely on publically available sources such as annual reports, newspaper articles, press releases and company websites. For each company the report indicates what information was found in these sources regarding biobased products and research into biobased processes and products.

The study shows that the majority of the companies are engaged in the biobased economy, to a greater or lesser extent, but that communication on the issue in publically accessible sources is still mainly qualitative.
