Subsidy scheme for Rotterdam inland shipping

Effectiveness of NOx reduction

On behalf of the municipality of Rotterdam, the Metropolitan District of Rotterdam and itself, Zuid-Holland provincial executive commissioned CE Delft to assess the effectiveness of a subsidy scheme for environmental measures in inland shipping in the province. The scheme was introduced by the provincial executive on behalf of the three parties to incentivise measures to reduce the NOx emissions of inland shipping.

The analysis shows that NOx emissions can be reduced by 50 to 75 tonnes per annum in the Rotterdam region as a result of the scheme. Compared with effective measures in road transport, the subsidy scheme scores well as a NOx-mitigating measure.
