Clean waste wood incineration for greening district heating in Utrecht

As an independent outside expert agency, CE Delft was asked by Eneco to assess the sustainability of the planned BWI BioHeat project in the Lage Weide district of Utrecht and identify areas for improvement and potential risks in the supply chain. To this end CE Delft has prepared three reports:

  1. Clean waste wood incineration for greening district heating in Utrecht. Eneco commissioned CE Delft to carry out an independent assessment of all the critical objections raised, from biomass sourcing to air quality.
  2. BWI sustainability assessment. A study to assess the extent to which the plan meets the sustainability criteria of the NEN NTA8080 directive (energy efficiency, CO2 emissions, biodiversity, soil quality), and identify areas for improvement and potential risks in the supply chain.
  3. Further study on the sustainability risks associated with use of wood from managed forests. A study following on from a recommendation deriving from the sustainability review.
