Improved energy efficiency through BAT for cooling server rooms

This study provides a survey of typical types of coolers for server rooms in office buildings, the cooling methods most widely employed at present and the amount of energy they use. The average investments and energy consumption of Best Available Technologies (BAT) are reviewed. The study involved a series of interviews with suppliers and people from the work floor, a literature study and a synthesis of the data thus obtained. Energy consumption and payback were calculated for typical serving areas using a computer model of energy flows in computer rooms and data centres.
