Towards a cleaner vehicle fleet

The Dutch town of IJsselstein is keen to improve the environmental performance of its fleet of municipal vehicles. To properly assess the environmental impact of the current fleet, as well as the effect, cost and feasibility of various measures to reduce that impact, CE Delft carried out an environmental audit of the fleet, focusing on the scope for reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates (PM10). In particular, the study calculated the emissions reduction that can be achieved by fitting diesel vehicles with particle filters, com-bined with accelerated introduction of new, cleaner vehicles, and the additional annual cost this would mean for the municipal vehicle fleet.
