The Dutch central government aims to ensure that the paper used by its ministries and government agencies is produced sustainably. However, sustainability is a broad concept. In this report, CE Delft outlines the key sustainability aspects of paper production. The accompanying assessment framework identifies the main environmental hotspots for different types of paper, including paper made from virgin wood fibre, recycled fibre and alternative fibres. Based on this assessment, the report expresses a preference for recycled paper.
The report is relevant to all purchasers and users of office paper and can, for example, be used to support the preparation of public procurement tenders. In addition to the report, CE Delft developed a visual assessment framework that illustrates the paper supply chain, the environmental impacts, and the key considerations for sustainable paper procurement.
