This study explores opportunities for renewable energy production on and around Grebbedijk, a dyke between Wageningen and Rhenen that is to be strengthened to ensure future protection of the surrounding area against high water levels in the Lower Rhine. There are currently three promising alternatives for dyke reinforcement and for each of these the (technical) potential of solar energy, wind power and thermal energy from surface water (TEO) are examined. No-regret measures were also identified: what can already be incorporated in dyke design so solar, wind or TEO can be implemented at some later date? Finally, the scope for an energy-neutral Rhine Harbour was also investigated.
