Vattenfall-Nuon (hereafter: Nuon) has announced plans to build a wood-pellet-fired heat plant with a capacity of (max.) 120 MWth at its Diemen production site, in a move designed to reduce the carbon footprint of the heat produced for delivery to south-east Amsterdam, Diemen and Almere. In the vision presented by Nuon, the planned facility is just the first element of a far more extensive roadmap towards a zero-carbon heat grid in 2040. Nuon has commissioned CE Delft to carry out a critical, objective review of the roadmap and advise accordingly.
