CE Delft, in collaboration with ABS (lead) and Arcsilea, has analysed wind-assisted propulsion systems as an option to reduce Greenhouse Gas and air pollutant emissions of ships. The study was contracted by the European Maritime Safety Agency and provides an overview of the wind-assisted propulsion systems that are available/are being developed for maritime shipping and analyses their sustainability, suitability, and availability. It also gives an overview of the safety and environmental regulations, standards and guidelines relevant for wind-assisted propulsion systems and their use in maritime shipping. In addition, a techno-economic analysis and a risk assessment (HAZID) have been carried out.
