To meet European climate and energy targets and the terms of the Paris climate accord requires large-scale and far-reaching changes to our energy system. In our country, electricity and heating account for over 75% of energy demand and CO2 emissions and are still based overwhelmingly on fossil fuels like gas and coal. For Europe as a whole the picture is largely the same. Over the coming decades renewable energy sources will therefore have to become far more prominent and at the same time be effectively integrated into the energy system. There will also have to be continued investment in energy efficiency, while cost reduction and systems renewal will need to be realized through innovative solutions in every sector. We stand ready to help parties design and implement these changes.
Much of our work is geared towards analysing the policies, technologies and costs involved in increasing the share of renewables and integrating them into the system and in implementing energy-saving measures. On the production side, we perform studies on the potential of both operational power stations and the various renewables. We also research a wide range of options for energy demand flexibilization, energy storage and Power to X routes, in industry as well as in households, on housing estates and in urban neighbourhoods, using a number of our computer models, including CEGOIA and Powerflex.
We identify the scope for using new policies and regulations to stimulate and facilitate these developments, calculate business cases for industry and bring parties to the negotiating table, subsequently supporting implementation when required. We help develop innovative technologies and design future scenarios for government authorities and industries. We analyse technical, economic and social feasibility, and examine the opportunities and threats associated with policies and technologies. We work for a broad range of clients, from energy companies and grid operators, industrial enterprises, national, regional and local government authorities and the European Commission and Parliament to environmental NGOs.
