Employment associated with electric vehicles in 2020

One of the aims of policies to incentivize electric transport (ET) in the Netherlands is to boost the Dutch economy, including the option of job creation through a strong national ET sector. In this framework, CE Delft was commissioned by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency to estimate the number of jobs in the country’s ET sector in 2020. Our estimate is that there will be 5,000-19,000 full-time equivalent jobs, with a median estimate of 10,000. This means that employment in this sector will be six times higher in 2020 than in 2014 (confidence interval: 3-12). Many of these jobs will be in the segment ‘charging infrastructure and smart grids’, but there will be a significant increase in the number of jobs in other segments, too.
