CE Delft has been closely involved in assessing the impacts of deposit/refund schemes for beverage packaging. We have carried out a number of studies on the policy options available for collecting packaging waste, examining economic and environmental aspects (climate, impacts, litter reduction) in both quantitative and qualitative terms.
We have good relations with the (financial) directors of deposit schemes in several countries, including Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Germany. At the request of the Flemish Environment Ministry we also recently examined the costs and impacts of potential introduction of a deposit scheme on one-way beverage packaging in Flanders, collaborating for the project with Technum and SuMa Consulting.
When it comes to identifying the defining characteristics of deposit schemes and their influence on costs, climate impacts and litter, we have unparalleled expertise.
