Electricity mix and market dynamics in 2035 CO2-free electricity system

The purpose of this study is to provide further insight into 1) what a CO2-free electricity system in 2035 could look like within the assumptions of the National Energy System Plan (NPE) and 2) what the resulting market dynamics might be. The assumptions and methodology are further described in the text box at the end of this summary. This study provides new insights into:

• The role of long-term energy storage, batteries and hydrogen plants
• The balance between solar PV, onshore wind, offshore wind and nuclear power
• The mutual energy exchange between countries and the role of interconnection
• The impact of different government policies on shaping the energy mix
• The hourly electricity prices and resulting business case for the various technologies.
