Energy consumption of 5G network

CE Delft was commissioned by Friends of the Earth-Netherlands (Milieudefensie) to carry out a first-pass scenario study of the power consumption of the 5G mobile telecom network and the principal 5G ICT users in 2030. The aim was to provide a broad answer to two questions:

1. In 2030, how will the power consumption of the 5G network compare with that of the present telecom network?
2. In 2030, by how much will the ICT sector’s power consumption grow as a result of new 5G-enabled ICT applications?
