The municipality of Katwijk is working on a Local Energy Strategy (LES), which is a successor to the energy programme 2015-2020. CE Delft has been asked to provide a numerical foundation for the energy transition challenge for 2030 (and, where possible, 2050) for the municipality of Katwijk. In this context, the municipality of Katwijk aims to be energy-neutral by 2050, meaning that over the course of the year, it will generate as much renewable energy as needed for its own consumption.
For the municipality, we have outlined:
The points at which the electricity grid in Katwijk will need to be reinforced in the future (2030 and 2050). CE Delft concludes that the policy goal of energy neutrality is only achievable through large-scale deployment of wind and solar energy, and that the municipality must take action to contribute to the goals of the RES Holland Rijnland. However, by 2030, there is no available capacity on the electricity grid to connect these large wind and solar projects. Close coordination with the grid operator Liander is necessary to keep the energy system robust and to enable the energy transition.
