Policies addressing large-scale batteries and grid generation congestion

CE Delft previously conducted a study on battery and grid generation congestion policies for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat) and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland, RVO). This is a follow-up study Policies addressing large-scale battery and off-grid congestion. This study on grid generation congestion examined:

  • The role of large-scale batteries for grid generation congestion, or can batteries solve grid generation congestion?
  • Additional policies for grid generation congestion, including integration in the electricity grid, spatial control and the realisation of additional batteries. The study examined a subsidy for deferred delivery by batteries for solar PV in more depth.
  • The role and potential of flow batteries.
