To encourage the use of recycled materials in packaging, Verpact introduced the Plastic Tariff Differentiation Scheme 2.0 on 1 January 2024. This scheme offers companies a discount on the waste management contribution when they incorporate recycled content in their packaging and when they place packaging on the market that is highly recyclable. As a result, it becomes financially more attractive for companies to use recycled materials. The Province of South Holland, together with Shell and Verpact, has commissioned CE Delft to investigate the practical experiences with tariff differentiation and to explore potential adjustments to the regulation to further promote the use of recycled content in plastic packaging.
