This study focuses on the effects of the size of Schiphol Airport on broad prosperity and well-being. Commissioned by the Maatschappelijke Raad Schiphol (MRS), it examines three different scenarios: a capacity of 500,000, 375,000 and 250,000 flights per year.
The analysis maps the societal impact across various themes, including the economy, public health, nature, climate and housing. A so-called steady-state analysis was conducted for the year 2025. This means that the study does not focus on the transition phase, but rather on a situation in which society and the economy have fully adjusted to the respective number of flights. In doing so, the study provides an evidence-based foundation for the debate on balancing international connectivity with the liveability of the surrounding area and the environment.
