By 2050 at the latest, all buildings in the EU must be climate neutral. Information on energy and material consumption is needed to achieve this goal. It is therefore crucial to streamline this information to make the built environment more sustainable. There are information needs and obligations from different quarters. In this study, we bring together the following three pieces of the information puzzle: (1) the information requirements from EPBD IV, (2) the information needs of Dutch parties with a legal responsibility and (3) the existing information products.
Based on the study, we conclude that there is clear overlap between the information requirements from EPBD IV and the information needs of local governments and financial institutions. This overlap is not complete, however. Furthermore, existing information products only partly provide the information required. With a view to filling in the gaps, we make a number of recommendations. The two most important ones are as follows: First of all, it is important to further unlock the missing information (such as demand profiles and information on utilities and facilities). It is also important to set up a process that leads to a single data system or a well-integrated family of data systems. This can for instance tie in with the current development of the national facility building data.
