Supply chain emissions of electricity. Electricity mix update 2019

Organisations can use the emission factors published on co2emissiefactoren.nl to calculate their carbon footprint. CE Delft was commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat [Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management] and Milieu Centraal [public information organisation] to update the carbon emission factor for electricity, including supply chain emissions. This was done for  electricity produced in the Netherlands in 2019, the most recent year for which all the necessary data are available.

The emission factor for electricity production in 2019 was 369 g/kWh. Supply chain emissions contribute an additional 58 g/kWh, making a total of 427 g/kWh. The latter were analysed on the basis of the electricity mix and then by tracing the upstream emissions of each source (natural gas, coal, wind, solar PV, biomass, etc.).
