In 2019 two parliamentary motions were adopted asking the Dutch government to prepare legislation on introducing deposits on cans.
Work on this legislation has been taken to hand by the ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, who commissioned CE Delft to carry out a supporting study estimating the costs, impacts and packaging volumes (cans) involved in a future system. This study calculates the cost of expanding the present system for small bottles to cans, based on the blueprint proposed in EY (2019).
