Audit Office study into sustainability at the municipalities of Leiden and Leiderdorp

CE Delft conducted a study for the Audit Office of the municipalities of Leiden and Leiderdorp to determine whether the municipalities are on track to achieve the sustainability targets they have set for the long term.

This study looked broadly at sustainability policies, from circular economy to energy transition, but also biodiversity and climate adaptation.

The study concludes that Leiden and Leiderdorp municipalities will be unable to meet their sustainability targets with current policies.Leiden and Leiderdorp have high ambitions but are reluctant to adopt and enforce frameworks. The study shows that while the efforts of both municipalities have been effective, it is not sufficient to meet the targets. The report also makes specific recommendations to improve policy monitoring.
