Energy prosumers in Europe – Citizen participation in the energy transition

Renewable technologies create new opportunities for citizens to become energy producers and actively contribute to the energy transition. The European Environment Agency (EEA) has therefore published a report that provides a broad overview of renewable energy prosumers in Europe. The report explains why governments support this, describes different types of prosumption and discusses the associated benefits and drawbacks. It also provides useful background information for the interested citizen and policymaker, as well as case studies to inspire readers.

CE Delft, together with Fraunhofer ISI and Ecologic Institute, supported the EEA in the preparation of this report.

The EEA report ‘Energy prosumers in Europe’ can be downloaded here. In the same project, the consortium also supported the EEA in preparing a briefing of Energy prosumers and cities. This briefing can be found here.
