Energy strategy for Haarlem

Haarlem municipality aspires to be ‘zero-gas’ by 2040 and commissioned CE Delft to elaborate a municipal energy strategy to this end. The aim is to explore future heating options for the town in order to draw up a transition plan and provide input for a regional energy strategy.

This study, an update of an earlier heat analysis for the municipality, takes a closer look at the pros and cons of the heating options available to Haarlem as a whole and to three model neighbourhoods (Meerwijk, Ramplaankwartier, Sportliedenbuurt) in particular. An energy analysis was also carried out to estimate the town’s future energy demand and assess its scope for meeting this locally. It is concluded that Haarlem will always remain dependent on energy supplied from outside.
