Evaluation of subsidy scheme for pig farming sanitation

The Pig Farm Remediation Subsidy Scheme (Srv) has been an effective and cost-effective measure. That is the conclusion of the assessment of the Srv commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries (Landbouw, Natuurbeheer en Visserij). However, odour emissions and especially ammonia emissions could have been more effectively addressed by buying up more older stables closer to nature reserves. In addition to reducing odour and ammonia, the scheme has also made a positive contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The evaluation makes recommendations with a view to introducing future remediation schemes in the livestock industry.
