Opportunities for hydrogen in Limburg industry – Feasibility study

Limburg industry will need to make choices in the challenge of becoming more sustainable. Electrification and hydrogen are two important options for becoming climate neutral. Limburg provincial executive and Limburg businesses affiliated with the Limburg Energy Agreement (LEA) recognise the potential role of hydrogen, not only as a raw material but also as an energy carrier. However, there is considerable uncertainty about this at a time when businesses need to make multi-year investments and want to make informed choices.

For this reason, Limburg provincial executive commissioned a study into the role hydrogen could play as an energy carrier in making electricity and heat use in Limburg industry more sustainable. CE Delft has identified opportunities on the basis of the technical feasibility and economic viability of LEA businesses. We also indicate how hydrogen will become available as well as when, at what price and with what infrastructure.
