Sustainable Development of Business Parks. Characterisation, barriers and solutions

The sustainability of the more than 3,700 business parks in the Netherlands is an increasingly important issue for energy saving, generation, storage and distribution. The focus of this study by CE Delft, commissioned by TKI Urban Energy, is on identifying sustainability at business parks. At the aggregation level between the national picture and individual business parks. This study is intended to help policymakers manage the sustainability of business parks more effectively.

We carried out the study in four steps. First, we made a quantitative classification (typology) of business parks in the Netherlands, as shown in the figure below. In the second step, we identified the current energy consumption of business parks. We then addressed the barriers to making business parks sustainable and proposed a number of possible solutions. In the final step, we made policy recommendations.
