Improving the sustainability of freight transport is a key concern of both government and industry. With its extensive know-how on air-pollutant and CO2 emissions in the logistics sector CE Delft can support clients, particularly on the following issues:
Today there is plenty of talk about air quality and climate change in the transport sector and frequent debate on which mode of transport is ‘greenest’. In our study STREAM (Study on the TRansport Emissions of All Modes) we have taken the first steps towards answering that question. Indices from this study are providing input for numerous projects aimed at reviewing transport emissions or assessing the impact of policy measures to reduce them.
CE Delft can also support clients in research on the impacts, costs and benefits of measures to reduce the environmental burden of freight transport operations. That research may involve a review of technical measures like aerodynamic enhancement or a switch to electric vehicles, biofuels or LNG, or alternatively of government policies. We have a solid understanding of the costs and savings of a wide range of fuel-efficiency measures and can quantify the impact of pricing policies, standards, subsidies and other such measures for all modes of transport.
We have in-depth know-how on biofuels as well as European, national and local policies on transport, energy and the environment. For projects relating to transport energy systems we collaborate with our energy specialists, who can supply relevant information on such issues as interlinkages with energy supplies to other sectors.
