Freight Transport

Improving the sustainability of freight transport is a major challenge for both government and industry. CE Delft supports clients with research and consulting services on reducing the air-pollutant and CO2 emissions of the logistics sector.

Goederenvervoer thema

CE Delft has extensive knowledge on freight transport emissions (vans, trucks, rail, aviation, inland and maritime shipping) and the factors governing them. We calculate the carbon footprint of logistical activities and identify ways to reduce it (alternative vehicles and energy carriers, modal shifts, logistical optimisation, etc.) along with their respective cost and impact.

We’re equally at home in urban logistics and international and hinterland transport.

Key fields of expertise

    • Detailed emission factors for all transport modes (our STREAM Handbook)
    • footprints and costs of existing and future modes
    • Roll-out of zero-emission zones, logistical hubs and other key issues

What can CE Delft do for you?

Policy analysis and advice

Development and evaluation of government policy on emissions reduction and greening of freight transport at the European, national and local (urban logistics) level.

Environmental footprint

We calculate the environmental footprints of transport modes, routes and logistical chains.

Company advice

We advise companies on optimising their environmental footprint, factoring in the cost of current and future fuels and technologies. Our expertise covers road, rail, aviation and shipping.

STREAM model

Our in-house STREAM model has detailed emission datasets for all the main freight modes, allowing us to calculate the precise impact of logistical optimisation, introduction of new technologies or new government policy.
