CE Delft was commissioned by Elysian Aircraft to conduct an impact analysis comparing the energy consumption and climate impact of battery-powered electric flights with the E9X, an electric aircraft being developed by Elysian, to other transport options. Our findings show that by using the E9X, the climate impact of short-haul flights of up to 1,000 km can be reduced by 70% compared to conventional flights using fossil kerosene. This is mainly due to the absence of non-CO2 climate emissions and higher energy efficiency in the chain. Comparisons are also made to hydrogen-powered aircraft, the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and land transport by train and car.
